In preparation to teach...

A great many articles I have to read for assignments contain words which never existed in my vocabulary. Well, thanks to this tiny, compact teacher and friend... which my super-dad sent me in the mail a few years ago, while I was studying overseas - it is no more tears to long, wordy passages.

It is not that I never owned dictionaries...

In fact, we used to have this activity at home, when I was kid - whereby I was made to read aloud from books to my mum. They were not exactly kiddy books, mind you. Obviously, I being a kid still, did not enjoy this supposedly vocabulary-enriching activity at all. I loved reading the books on my own, yes... but with my mum, not really - although she meant it for my good. (Thank you, mum! 'No discipline is pleasant at the time, but painful...' - Hebrews 12:11a) - Hehe. Whenever we stopped at a long word, she would quiz me on its definition and if I had no idea what the word meant, I would have to thumb through the pages of a huge dictionary, to look up the word. Yuck. As you can imagine, I developed a great dislike for dictionaries, even while my vocabulary increased. I hated their weight, their font-size, etc. Eventually, even the smell of their old-pages sent shivers down my back.

However, this one is so light and handy to carry along wherever I go, that I appreciate it so much more. Not to mention it gives clear and concise definitions of even the most contemporary words found even in theological texts.

Hehe. Cool right?

Today's a busy day. Just prepared some teaching material for the weekend. Soon, I will have to attend my seniors' graduation, which will take up the whole day.

Tomorrow, I've gotta play piano for Hua Xia commissioning (the songs still remain a complete mystery - such an interesting challenge, because I can't read the words - they are in Chinese... and I can't remember the melodies now even after that day's practice). Then meet up with guests... who are no other than Laura jie and Ewan korkor, who have come up to Penang from Singapore for the weekend! :) Tomorrow evening's going to be dedicated to Bible-study/CG.
