This is a beautiful hymn one of my brothers, Yeh Han, taught me in year 2007. I have been singing it eversince - whether along with the community of fellow believers at church... or alone. The story of how and why the song was written is a pretty sad one. However, it still resounds with joy and triumph in the Lord.
Today, I arrived at the end of the Book of Philippians. It is a very encouraging book to study - as its theme centers on Paul's joy in Christ in the midst of trials, as he tenderly writes to the first church he founded in Macedonia (Church of Philippi) to acknowledge their timely and faithful provisions to him in time of need... as well as to bring them instructions on Church unity and an exhortation to rejoice in the LORD always.
Additionally, Paul paints a different portrait of Christ in each of the four sections.
Philippians 4:6-9:
'Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard or seen in me - put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.'
