I was feeling a little troubled 'bout certain matters today. Went home for lunch in the afternoon, spent some time in prayer, and as I was driving back to church later in the afternoon, I heard this song on a CD I've been playing over and over again in my car. It's an instrumental piece, mind you. But something stirred in me to sing along to it, in words.
Think some of you might know this old hymn...
Something Beautiful
Words: Gloria Gaither
Music: William J. Gaither
Something beautiful, something good;
All my confusion He understood.
All I had to offer Him
Was brokenness and strife,
But He made something beautiful of my life.
If there ever were dreams
That were lofty and noble,
They were my dreams at the start;
And the hopes for life’s best
Were the hopes that I harbored,
Down deep in my heart.
But my dreams turned to ashes,
My castles all crumbled,
My fortune turned to loss;
So I wrapped it all in the rags of my life,
And laid it at the cross.
Something beautiful, something good;
All my confusion He understood.
All I had to offer Him
Was brokenness and strife,
But He made something beautiful of my life.
My soul lifted, thank God!
I was smiling as I drove back to church.
