A snippet of the past...

Dropped in to the Penang General Hospital today, to visit and pray with two hospitalised church members - along with our pastor and two other ladies.
---
There is always a first time for everything.
---
While it wasn't the first time I've visited and prayed with the sick, it was definitely the first time I've ever been in the GH wards wearing a faded t-shirt, pair of jeans and casual sandals! In fact I've almost never appeared on the wards in anything other than formal wear and my tatty white coat. Senior doctors who recognized me looked questioningly at my attire, 'til I assured them that I was there only to visit people.
---
Did not have to worry about patients spotting my white-coat and calling me over to ask questions that I cannot really answer too. Did not have to fumble in my pockets to fish out the coiled-up stethoscope, tuning fork, patella-hammer, measuring tape or Oxford Handbook of Medicine. Did not have to press my white-coat pockets against my sides to check which pocket I've placed my handphone and wallet in. (I never could remember!)
---
But me...of course, being the very sentimental me - spotted a few of my PMC juniors wandering about in the corridors with their clerking sheets, formal wear, pockets bulging with stethoscope, tuning fork, patella-hammer, measuring tape, OHM and etcetera... about to go off for lunch break - remembered how things used to be when I was walking in their shoes and felt a little tug deep down inside.
---
All my favourite memories of med-school came flooding back. My close friends (we've all gone our separate ways), my housemates, my college cafeteria even though the food was a little sucky, the school and hospital libraries, our long car-rides to Seberang Jaya and Bukit Mertajam hospitals, our weekend getaways, Christian Fellowship meetings, etc.
---
*Sigh* It was even the first time I've ever missed sitting through a lecture in our LT!
How faithful God has been to give me so many beautiful things to remember from the past 5 years, challenging as they have been.
