...to a much-awaited union...Terrible neck and back pains greeted me this morning. After yesterday's late, late night - (and so many previous late nights), I am not surprised. Oh let me find my joy and strength in God.
My contextualization paper is so messed up. I have no idea how to remedy it. Plus... I have to present it on Tuesday too!!! *Screams* At times like these, I usually ask myself - "What on earth made you choose such a topic?!? Were you out of your mind?"
But that is me. Always up for a good challenge. I'd better be responsible for my own decisions indeed.
Ben called me last night and made me crack up on one of the boo-boos he made. Apparently my amazing fiance wrongly directed a text message he was supposed to send me (with some endearing terms in it too >.<" - thankfully not much though) to the wrong Grace. And this Grace happens to be our former pastor's wife. Imagine how traumatized Ben was. In a panic-stricken voice, he went: "Pst. J is going to kill me...."
Hahahahaa......so funny.
OK, I'd better get back to my work. How time flies.

Sunday humor
Today Aunty G asked me: "So what are you going to do after you graduate from the BTS?"
Me: I will be a good wife.
Aunty G. to her husband: I wanted to know what ministry she's going to do... and she told me that she would be a good wife.
Aunty G's husband (smiling): Well, that is the most important ministry of all!

Wall resistance...

Yesterday, while I was doing kicks in front of the TV (as a form of exercise, if you were wondering. LOL), I got distracted... my leg swung in the wrong direction and my foot smashed into the wall. The wall was not damaged, but I stood there for a while, half wincing in great pain and laughing helplessly at myself at the same time. *Bummer*
Thank God my toes haven't fallen off, despite Newton's third law! Miraculously, my foot is OK today. Apart from a teeny-weeny skin tag, there are no other visible aftermath of kicking the wall. But well... I grew wiser by a day and a kick.

Something my student said...
Me: What would you do if you were walking along the road one day...and you found someone's wallet lying on the ground?
Student (trying to hide her grin) : I would go shopping and fly back to Korea.
*Faints*
Hahahahaha!!! Oh well, it was an English lesson... and not a moral lesson...
I will surely miss moments like this one someday...

A funny incident...
I was eating my lunch at a fast-food joint this afternoon before giving tuition... when I noticed a group of men seated at a nearby table laughing and talking...
Had a strange inkling that their conversation was about me, coz the two sitting with their backs toward me would at times revolve their heads to look in my direction. Feelings of vulnerability crept in... but I decided that perhaps I was over-sensitive... I subsequently took out my journal...and began writing laboriously in it...
Tried to ignore the dudes... but failed.com. Stole glances at my neck-line to see if it was too plunging.
After a while, the men got up to leave... Two out of three of them exited the fast-food joint gracefully through the heavy swinging glass-doors. To my alarm, one of them approached my table and sat down in front of me.
Yes, he did not even ask if I was OK with him sitting down...
Me: (thinking: what the nerve!)
Man (while breathing heavily and trying rather unsuccessfully to hide his trembling voice): Um... (speaks in Mandarin) - Hi, can I get to know you? Can I be your friend?
Me (trying to buy time and think of what to say without sounding rude): Sorry, can you please speak in English? (thinking: D-A-R-N! I hope he doesn't think that I am from China...)
Man (in English this time): Sorry... it's nothing really... Can I have your contact... and get to know you?
Me: Um... sorry, I don't think so. I don't give people my phone-number just like that...
Man: Then can we be friends?
Me: Sorry, I don't think so. (Thinking: Gosh, what a harsh answer!)
Man: It's OK.
He got up and disappeared immediately.
Omigosh. I don't think I sounded really polite either... but I was at a total loss what to say. Felt bad for rejecting him so abruptly too, but I had my reasons to be suspicious. (I am now on con-man alert!) And no, I was not flattered at all.
What kind of cheesy pick-up line was that? Did he actually think that I would give him my number?
Now, I am used to random dudes 'stumbling across' my Facebook profile and messaging me to ask if they can get to know me or add me to their friends list. But in person? This was really a first. I could ignore my Facebook messages (which I usually do)... but how should I respond to a situation like today's?
I am still hoping that the other two had dared him to do it - and he was doing it just to make them happy... although it looked nothing like that. *Denial, denial* :P
It must have been some kind of prank....
Sigh, I wish that I could have been a little friendlier though.
Then I dialed Ben's number on my hand-phone and complained to him about the whole incident. He had a good laugh. @_@'
Nevertheless, I was extremely careful while walking to my car after I was done with lunch.

Saturday
I had a funny sort of Saturday morning during the weekend. It started with me being a pin-cushion...
I went for a full-body check-up at one of the clinics. It involved the general examinations, a lung-function test, BMI calculation, urine test, blood test and ECG. Everything was fine until it was time for me to do a little um...blood-sacrifice.
This was where all the trouble started.
You see, I've never been an easy patient when it comes to blood-taking. You can say that I am an inexperienced-doctor's worst nightmare. My veins are incredibly tough to find, tiny and if you happen to stumble upon one in the crook of my arm, I don't yield much blood. Often, the doctors give up trying to draw blood from anterior aspect of my elbow... and switch to a vein from my hand or wrist.
First, I should mention that I had drunk a ridiculous amount of water that morning - just so that I could empty my bladder to give a substantial urine sample. I was still waiting for the call of nature, when I was called... into the blood-taking room instead.
The biochemist who was to potentially 'break-the-record' (or so I hoped), didn't seem fazed when I told her about my 'problem'. She prepared the needles and placed a tourniquet on my arm...
I thought, "Uh-oh. OK, here goes..."
After examining my arm, my biochemist realized that I was not kidding about my 'difficult veins'. Started tapping, tapping, tapping and tapping on the anterior aspect of my elbow... until she was practically slapping it in frustration. *Yeouccch* (Ganas betul!) She would occasionally stop slapping to feel around with her fingers for veins. No veins responded or appeared. I sighed. She decided to insert the needle by faith anyway.
By the time she had finished all the slapping, I was already numbed. The needle pierced my skin and moved around, desperately hoping to puncture a vein. No such luck. After quite some time of moving the needle in all directions under my skin and pumping the syringe to suck up some blood, the biochemist who looked really tired and nervous (I felt so sorry for her) announced reluctantly, "I will have to use a different spot."
I said, "It's OK. Relax!!!" Gave her the most friendly smile I could possibly muster. (I knew how she felt - coz I was once in her shoes)
I thought, "But I want to pee..."
She tried again. Same arm. Slap, slap. Feel for vein. Slap, slap and SLAP! The needle went in clean after a long time... and this time, it did puncture a vein. Bravo! However, she did not manage to get much blood. Pumped and pumped the syringe too. I was starting to smart with pain... and since there was still not much blood, she decided that she'd try the other arm.
This was when Ben, who was sitting outside, got REALLY worried (I had been in there for a good 20 minutes or so) - he talked to another biochemist outside and told her to rescue me. (My dear is such a hero! :P) And so, yes, this time, a different biochemist jabbed me, on a different arm....
BLOOD! At last! Not much, but still... it was just enough to fill up all the lab test-tubes...
I heaved a big sigh of relief!
This was the longest blood-taking session ever. 30 minutes for a few tiny test-tubes of blood. I think I proved to be my first biochemist's worst nightmare.
I ran to the bathroom after that for a good pee. The End.

Starting assignments today!!!
*cheers* --> half-hearted one...but may God help me to fully enjoy myself piah-ing these 2 weeks... :P
Anyway, was driving to the bank today... and I thought... how clever my brain is... particularly when it comes to money.
Every month, I can keep mental accounts of how much I've spent from a certain fund and how much of the quota I have left for the month (eg. petrol fund, utility bills fund, food fund, etc).... remember how much money I have left in the bank (and panic a bit)... strategize how to move money around all the funds that I can spend more on food (bare necessities)...
On top of it, when my cerebrum perceives that my funds are dropping drastically or forsees great future expenditures happening - the part of my brain that controls my emotions will make sure that I feel 'emo' so that I become extremely kiam-siap and start stinging like crazy. And then since the soul (mind, will and emotions) and the spirit are connected, I will be influenced (when helpless) to pray to God and ask for more provisions.
Seminary life not only equips the brain... but it sure helps other centers of the brain to develop too.

Saturday
Had an awesome morning going with a younger sis-in-Christ, Ee Ling. We went to Austin Chase cafe in Queensbay Mall... I was not too impressed with the food (but to be fair, this was only my first time here) ... but I did have a great time catching-up with Ee Ling, who's just passed her med-and-surg exam finals with flying colours (congrats, dear... and yes, PRAISE GOD!!!)... A meaningful date. Such a comfort to talk to my dear sisters. God has been good and gracious to me indeed. If it weren't for them, I would.. I would have 'perished' in my own struggles, woes, fears, low self-image and insecurities.
More and more "goodbyes" to be said... and farewells to be bade. What a season... Perhaps - just perhaps, I am being weaned myself... for a whole new chapter in my book of life... when I shall start of afresh... in a new place, in a new community of believers, in a new work, etc...
God, if it is Your will...... please provide. We can depend on no one... but You.
I went to the hair-saloon for a trim in the afternoon... and then had dinner with Janet, William, Sau Chan and Xu Wen... before we watched Toys Story 3 at Queensbay. I did enjoy the movie... although we had to spend some time lepak-ing in between dinner and the movie :P - during which, nobody had any idea what to do and where to go in the mall...
Talking about movies... we do know of some friends who have not gone to the cinema their entire lives! One of them is - an elderly aunty in church... When she told us that she's never stepped into a cinema before, Ben decided that he would pull her leg... so he said, "It's a good thing that you didn't! Don't ever go. You would have to stand throughout the entire movie!!!" Our aunty-friend looked quite horrified... you should have seen us laughing like mad when we heard her answer... "Really arr?" @_@ So, so naughty. Later of course, Ben confessed... or did I say, "NOLAR!" ??? I can't remember already.
I miss Ben so much. This is my 3rd weekend without him.
That's today. I realize recently that my thoughts are harder and harder to express in words... sometimes, they aren't even thoughts... but feelings deep down inside, too intricate to be simplified and expressed by one word - "emo". They only straighten out when I talk to God - in simple words and sentences...and cry a little. Yet, it is so hard for me to put them into words here on my blog - and I won't attempt to do so :) Let them be just between me and my Father in Heaven who loves me so.

Wednesday
Headache...
Actually it started with me trying my best to keep awake in class. I was so, so zombified this morning, the air-con was so chilly and our lecturer's voice seemed so umm... soothing - that it could have lulled me to sleep. (Think Rock-a-bye-baby...)
It didn't help that Winson Chee kept nodding on and on beside me. While that guy has a 'gift' for falling asleep (sometimes unnoticed) and yet maintaining his very-natural-posture in such a way that you'd never think he was asleep if not for his shut eyes and occasional nods (in fact he always looks like he's bowing his head in prayer), I have not such an advantage. I'd either do dramatic clockwise and anti-clockwise rolls of the head that would annoy the heck out of any lecturer (I bet!) or fall out of my seat into the aisle - if I ever happen to doze off in an upright position. So brutal...
You can thus imagine why it is necessary for me to work hard to keep awake. I've had enough of embarrassing myself back in med school. Last time, we had about 200 students in one auditorium. This time it's less than 20. No more a small fish in the big ocean! :P
The result of me forcing open my eyelids when they would have been better off shut = headache.
Anyway...
This afternoon, I came across 1 Cor 15:58 during QT that goes: "Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the LORD, because you know that your labor in the LORD is not in vain."
What a great reminder. LETS!

Thursday
Push me an empty tic-tac-toe grid anytime in class... and I'll fill in a nought or a cross.
You wouldn't expect that of me, would you? :P
It may surprise you that I watch TV sometimes...when I am bored. Even if it is Desperate Housewives. It doesn't mean that I agree with all the values. I don't. But it is an interesting drama-serial. It helps me understand women - the hearts of mothers and wives...and of course, um, the seductress. The women I want to reach out to. Plus, it helps me understand myself better too - as a woman.
I love the Discovery/National Geographic/Animal planet channels alot btw.
I listen to the radio. Yes, I do not agree with many of the things sung about in the songs - especially regarding love or extra-marital sex. But they help me understand the cultures of today - so that I can relate a little more to the youths. And of course, I always admire talent and good musical compositions/arrangements.
Yes, I don't only listen to classical, jazz and Christian music.
I read secular, girly magazines (not gossip ones though) which include Female, CLEO, Women's Weekly, etc. Again, I do not condone simply all the advice given in their glossy pages ... but it doesn't mean that such magazines cannot provide good solutions and tips (beauty-, health-, medical-, relationship-, and etc-related), news, great general knowledge (oh no kidding... evidence-based ones too), good recipes, housekeeping helps, etc.
Of course, there are no substitutes for good books! :)

Monday randoms
Many things sobered me up pretty much in the past few days. Unexpected news, sudden changes, sad stuff, etc.
...but at least - I've gotten some laughter back. And you know what they say: Laughter is good medicine. I am still laughing over this one conversation I had with Ben at Giant Hypermarket yesterday. I was going to buy a new tub of night cream for the face.
Me: Umm, should I buy the one with whitening properties or the one with *xxxxx* (=something I'd rather keep a secret :P I kinda don't like people knowing what I use on my face. Haha.)???
Ben: Huh??? Whitening!!? *Shocked look* But...but...you are already so fair. Zhong yong gum geh yeh... Lei oi lei geh min fatt gong ah??? (Cantonese-English translation: If you still use that kind of stuff... you want your face to shine/reflect light isit?)
Sorry my cantonese isn't that good either :P
I laughed and laughed. Who knows, my face could even glow in the dark. I ended up buying the face-cream with *xxxxx* in it.
Anyways...
I will be going to Singapore during the May holidays (1st time in 3 years!) to visit a few of my closest friends... beloved, beautiful people, who've been such support to me throughout my studies, ministry (and life!) - my covenant sisters - Laura and Ji. Also, I really desire to personally thank one particular lady, Aunty May Ling (her husband and the rest of the family too), whom I have never met in my life... but who has been so sensitive to God's prompting to support my schooling in so many ways in the past year. Looking forward to this trip. It will be GOOD!
More blogging if I get to finish my research paper on Augustine of Hippo today.

Wednesday
First of all, thanks so much to Tairven and Wee Lyn who treated Ben and I to a good dinner yesterday. Your fellowship and love has touched and blessed us indeed :)
I had another of those alarm-clock-sabo incidents this morning.
Well, you see... I had changed my handphone alarm clock tune to that of a familiar hymn, 'Near to the heart of God'. This morning, it rang... but I just wouldn't be aroused from deep slumber... so the clock continued to 'sing' that hymn every 5 minutes. I had weird dreams, in which the chorus of 'Near to the heart of God' would repeat every now and then (just like in those movies, where you get strains of the theme song playing softly in the background at certain scenes) - and then I suddenly realized that it was my handphone clock! As my phone was as usual 'charging' in the corner of the room, I sprung up from bed and ran like a headless chicken in that direction (in the dark - with my eyelids still fused shut). In all that confusion, I ran face-first into the standing fan @_@. Toingggggg!!!
Thank God it was not on - but alas... it knocked me on the forehead, just above my left eye :P that I had to start the day with a headache. Yeouccch!
Shared my testimony in chapel today - with Vanessa as my English-Mandarin translator. (She was so good!) It was a little scary - I am never too comfortable sharing up front about my stint in medical school or eating disorders although many already know my past; I don't know if everyone understood me - especially the part about eating disorders, haha. But oh well, all glory be to God who has given me that testimony to share. Thank you and lotsa love to my friends who encouraged me after I was done :D
Gotta quickly get to quiet time and work. I will leave you with one of the pictures I like the most, which was taken by Tairven during WAM App. Nite last Saturday. Toodles!

Thursday
Church history paper is over. Thank God! MCQs were great. Essays... hmm, a little bit harder. I didn't write too good an essay on King Clovis' conversion and its consequences on the Roman papacy :P My mind was so blank. But never mind... at least the exam is out of my way now!
Now to focus on my OTS assignments, weekend ministry and etcetera...
Was running through the songs for this Sunday's praise and worship... singing, singing, singing... and it suddenly rained :P Hehe. A good long shower of rain too. I AM VERY VERY HAPPY ABOUT THE RAIN! At long, long last! I can't remember the last time it rained in Penang. Ah, you cannot imagine the gratitude in my heart! Praise God!
But why did it have to happen while I was singing? :D

Hello...?
...Anyone up for a new pet?
There's a huge spider lurking somewhere in my car. She is pretty, her body's the size of a 50-cent coin, she is a muddy-brown and has long legs that look like rolled-up dried leaves. I don't know how she wandered in, but she can't find her way out. According to Ben, I separated her from her lover, whom he saw outside my car on Saturday. I didn't mean to...honest!
So Spiddy, please spare me from your vengeance!
Whoever finds her first can keep her. After all, you know what they say... Finder's keepers! ROTFLMAO.
It's Spiddy-alert for me from now onwards!

The fall...
I have my geeky and clumsy moments.
This morning, I was supposed to wake up early, so that I could get to church in time for Youth Ministry.
Usually, I am so tired on Saturday evenings/nights (CG), that I more often than not have to dig myself out from bed on Sunday mornings, rush through all the morning routines... grab a peanut-pao from the hawker's stall and speed off to church. *Sheepish* Yesterday, I thought... why not set my alarm clock so that I'd wake up a little earlier than usual... so that I wouldn't have to rush? Well, I did... Ambitious, silly me.
Turned out that I spent a few hours before bed that night crying my eyes out about something random. Haha. Then my nose was badly blocked :( Craps (There's no such thing as crying myself to sleep for me!) To cut the long story short, it was a long time before I could comfortably fall asleep.
This morning, my alarm clock (which is actually my handphone) rang (with the most eerie, frightening tune ever...if I may add) at an unearthly hour in the corner of my bedroom, where it was still charging from yesterday night.
I got up in great alarm as the music got louder and louder... Ran in the direction of my alarm clock (phone) - and slipped and fell. Banged my bum against something (the bed I think) - and the next thing I knew my head hit the floor with a loud thunk! Voila! I ended up flat out on my back.
Sigh. In the end, I didn't get to wake up THAT early. I snoozed my clock, whimpered and went back to bed to nurse my aching head. So much for all that hullabaloo! :P
Thankfully, I didn't crack my skull. But the headache is still there while I type this. And I've got this lump somewhere on my head, a bruise on my hip, a little sprain in my neck and a wound on my bum :P

Is it time to make these...?
...for the New Year?I am not saying they are wrong... But, perhaps, I have never bothered keeping them ever :P ~ those made over the New Year. I don't know why. Throughout the year, I often resolve to change... whenever the Holy Spirit convicts me of something to repent of - so that my life is pleasing to God. But at New Year? I usually make faith-lists, commit the year ahead unto Him, and ask Him to help me grow in all areas.
Heh... but if I were to make one for the year ahead - it would be not to bite (and peel) my fingers of their skins (near the finger-nail). Sorry, I know that is gross - but that's a extremely bad habit I've cultivated since I was a kid in the kindy... I'm not sure if it has got something to do with my subconscious or personal insecurities or what. I do even more of that unconsciously when I am nervous, stressed or emotionally upset. Viciously attack my thumbs with my teeth and fingernails. (Sounds so horrible) In fact, I am always doing it nowadays, so my thumbs are very ugly.
This brings back funny memories... Tailo used to suddenly grab my thumbs just to hold them up in the light, examine their 'interesting' contour...exclaim over my 'creativity' and rebuke me (such a tortured ah mui I was...@_@ ~ but I know, I know... he really cared). I'd squeal and try to wriggle my thumbs out of his grasp, but his grip strength was obviously greater than mine.
Used to peel off all my nails too - but since I've managed to bring that under control and I hardly do it anymore... THERE IS HOPE FOR MY THUMBS!
I'd like to start having pretty thumbs for once ~ to match other pretty bits of myself ~ (ehem, I hope that didn't sound too perasan) therefore my, um... New Year resolutions... would be... not to bite and peel my fingers anymore...
God, please help me.
Friends, please help me... if you see me doing that unconsciously, please remind me: NO PEELING.

Yet another one...
...asked if I were from China yesterday. LOL. I am already getting used to it...
Actually I realized... this only happened since I entered the seminary. People never said stuff like that before. Weird huh? Nowadays, there are even people NOT related to the seminary asking me if I am from China. So creepy.
It is even funnier whenever the people from China think I am from China - and later discover that I am not. Biggest give away = my Mandarin.
What is happening here? Are my facial features transforming or something?
I promise, I did not do any plastic surgery!:P Or grow one shade fairer. In fact, I've developed a little tan since I started driving to school everyday.
One thing for sure, my Mandarin has not gotten any better.

November Fool ?
...reading, highlighting, trying to summarize...and doing my reflection papers...
(If you are wondering what's in the orange bottle: antibacterial solution to clean all types of surfaces...gentle on hands, and removes stain, dirt and grease @_@' )
Now, I am stuck doing my research paper...and I don't know how to continue. *whimper* It's too late to regret choosing the topic I chose out of 12! @_@ I have no choice but to go on!
But how do I go on from here?
*Edit* - a good half-an-hour later...
I can't believe what a big headed prawn I am....
I don't know why... but I kept thinking that our dateline for Music and Missions is on the 14th November 2009. Today, I was reminded by our brother, Ooi... that the dateline is actually 20th November! *smacks self on forehead* Of note, I've never done this in my life! LOLx.
Anyway...
AHHHHHH! Imagine my relief now... I also don't have to miss EFCC training in church this week!
Gosh. Then what is on the 14th of November?
